The Yorton team loaded up & headed north to Doncaster for the Goffs UK January Sale which also plays host to the annual TBA Stallion Showcase at the end of last month.
The Doncaster week was kicked off with the Yorton on Tour hospitality marquee being rolled out on Monday to host a fun drinks reception in the stallion yard on the eve of the sale & we were delighted to welcome breeders, buyers, fellow stallion masters from across the UK & Ireland. A superb opportunity for everyone to meet up again following the festive period & given the typically cold seasonal conditions, warm up in the process!
We were happy to have brought four of the stallions with us to parade with Masterstroke, Gentlewave & Pether’s Moon being joined by one of many breeders picks of the yard, Arrigo. All the stallions looked immaculate & behaved impeccably which is a real credit to the whole team at Yorton who work tirelessly throughout the season.
George & Dave were also canvassing the yearlings being sold the same day & were happy to have picked up five new recruits under the Tridynion banner which will be re-offered for sale at a later date or perhaps go into training with Yorton Racing. Each was sired by a Yorton resident stallion & not by chance. Dave commented, “We always inspect all stock at any sale by sires we have an association with & the Yorton model does not end once the mare is in foal. We will support our stock in the sales ring at all level’s although I have to say, I was disappointed that we were underbidder on the Gentlewave colt (Lot 6) offered by Swanbridge BS but I don’t think Dick Frisby was in a losing mood!! He made a great price (£34,000) which shows the popularity of the sire.”
Last week the Yorton tour continued as Dave & George crossed the Irish sea to embark on a trip around some Yorton sired stock in training around the emerald isle. The trip could not have started any better as approximately half way into the crossing, the phones started pinging with the news An Tobar (main picture) had romped home on his first start in the 5yo Geldings Maiden Point-to-Point at Ballyvadock by 20 lengths. Trained in Wexford by Denis Murphy on behalf of leading owner Brian Acheson, the son of Gentlewave was well touted beforehand leaving Denis to simply comment, “I think he could be one of the best horses which have come through my hands, he is extremely exciting & heads to Henry De Bromhead now.”

An Tobar was bred by UK based Rita Vaughan & having been sold as a foal to the the Bleahen Bros, he was puchased by Mags O’Toole for €72,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in 2020.
Tuesday brought the team to the Tattersalls Ireland February Sale where two yearlings were bought & both by the Pascal Noue resident Bathyrhon who is doing well in France & another exciting son of Monsun at stud. The rest of the week was spent on the road around Irish farms & no doubt the Yorton team will be back across to Ireland in the coming months. For now, it is full steam ahead for the start of the covering season & we look forward to following Yorton sired stock alongside sale graduates on the racecourse with some great race meetings on the horizon!
