Deere hits his Mark & 'Yorton on Tour 2023' gets under way!

The New Year of 2023 brings with it a sense of excitement and anticipation within the Stallion boxes at Yorton. The team are always on the lookout for progeny of the resident stallions but no more so than stock by stud favourite Pether’s Moon.

The Gr.1 Coronation Cup winner leads the charge amongst the team in the popularity stakes but with a steady stream of recent winners, the word is spreading! The son of Gr.1 producing sire Dylan Thomas, Pether’s Moon’s first crop only turned six in the New Year with three of that crop winning over the last two weeks namely MOON HUNTER, EGBERT and DEERE MARK.

A graduate of the Yorton Sale, DEERE MARK was picking up his third career victory under the care of Sam Thomas in the colours of NH stalwart Dai Walters on 14/1/23 at Kempton. Having also won on his previous start at Hereford, Deere Mark was up in grade and travelled supremely well throughout to win with plenty in hand. His Gold Cup winning handler clearly holds him in very high regard and has entered him in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in February.

YORTON On Tour To DONCASTER

The first bloodstock event in the calendar is clearly identified as the Goffs UK January Sale at Doncaster towards the end of the month. This sale hosts the annual NH Foal session where nearly 200 predominantly British bred young stock will be offered. Yorton will be extremely well represented in 2023 with a choicely bred selection of weanlings, all bred in the Powys countryside. The sextet feature five progeny of current Yorton based sires alongside a very attractive colt by ex resident Blue Bresil. Offered as lot 35, the only filly is an April born Masterstroke filly out of the Stowaway mare More Like That whose first two runners have both won including the exciting Mollys Mango, a Bumper winner and Listed placed for Gordon Elliot.

Arrigo is represented by two colts from his first UK crop with Lots 77 and 161, both fantastic examples of what the brother to Adlerflug is producing. The latter boasts a significant pedigree update this season as his 6yo brother (bred at Yorton and another Yorton Sale graduate) is none other than recent Gr. 2 winner INTHEPOCKET who remains unbeaten from three starts and holds a number of Gr.1 entries in which he will sport the synonymous J.P. McManus silks.

Gentlewave was represented over the festive period by one of his flag bearers GENTLEMANSGAME who won well at the first time of asking over fences at Leopardstown in dominant fashion by 8Ls. The Gr.1 placed hurdler is another who looks set to compete at that level again in the near future potentially at the Dublin Racing festival in a couple of weeks time.

Three Boys Head North

Alongside the sale itself and conveniently located in Yards A/B, is the annual TBA Stallion Showcase at which Yorton will be parading three of our resident sires. The 2023 travelling group consist of ARRIGO, the son of leading NH sire and influence Shirocco and a brother to the champion Adlerflug. Arrigo is represented by his first UK bred crop with this tall, athletic and extremely handsome horse standing at £2,000 in 2023.

The stallion showcase will be the first opportunity for UK breeders to set eyes on the newest recruit to the Yorton stallion ranks by way of Gr.1 winner ITO. The only son of Adlerflug standing in the British Isles, the 12yo is also a full brother to German Derby winner and Arc runner up In Swoop. Standing an easy 16.2hh, the son of Classic winning mare Iota is sure to attract plenty of attention in Yorkshire and will stand for £3,000 in 2023.

The trio is completed by the proven young sire MASTERSTROKE who enters his fourth season at Yorton in 2023. A son of elite sire of NH sires Monsun, Masterstroke is out of a Classic placed sister to Galileo and will be represented by his biggest books of NH bred runners in France in 2023 with his eldest UK crop having only turned two this year. There is much to look forward to and we look forward to welcoming you to Yard B on Tuesday 24 January.
