Gentle Slopes cruises to Listed Bumper win at Cheltenham

Having already won an Irish Point-to-Point & a Sedgefield bumper, Gentle Slopes (5yo G Gentlewave), stepped up again by cruising to victory in the Listed Bumper at Cheltenham’s Paddy Power meeting on Sunday (13/11/22)

Bred by Yorton & sold as a foal to the Bleahen brothers, the son of Gentlewave was always in command & powered up the famous Cheltenham hill to earn rave reviews from onlookers & more importantly his trainer, Milton Harris who commented;

He’ll go in a maiden hurdle and then step straight up - I think he’d get two-and-a-half no problem. He isn’t a handicapper, I’m sure. He’s a beautiful mover of a horse - he’s a graded horse, 100%.”

Having been purchased as a 3yo from John Bleahen’s Lakefield Farm for €70,000 by Donnchadh Doyle, this tall, athletic grandson of Monsun, won at Tyrella under regular Monbeg jockey Rob James by 15 lengths before being sold for £90,000 the following week at the Tattersalls Cheltenham March Sale. That looks money very well spent by his resurgent trainer & bigger targets will await the 5yo however few would bet against the son of Gentlewave entering the Cheltenham winners enclosure in the future!

The Yorton/Bleahen combination had already served up a winner earlier in the afternoon courtesy of the Oliver Sherwood trained MACLAINE (5yo G Masked Marvel). The homebred was another sold privately off the farm to the Galway based Bleahen family & battled well to win the Novices’ Hurdle at Fontwell under Daryl Jacob.
