More exciting youngsters & the stud opens its doors!

The traditional ‘Festive’ period may have ended for most some time ago but the Yorton team were happy to celebrate a couple of very exciting farm graduates last week alongside the inaugural TBA NH Stallion tour!

The famous ‘Ricci’ silks are a fairly rare sight in British tack rooms but when they appear, it’s usually with good meaning! Think dual Grade 1 winner Royale Pagaille for instance. It was therefore intriguing when Yorton graduate FIRE WARNING (5yo G) (pic above) was declared in the pink & spotted green colours by Lambourn legend Nicky Henderson having been sourced for €340,000 having won at Auteuil towards the end of last year.

The son of The Grey Gatsby made the perfect start making all in the second division of the 2m½f novice hurdle under James Bowen, justifying 8-11 favouritism, on his British debut with a cosy success leading all the way to win by three lengths from a fair yard stick in Bespoke Tailor.

Henderson said “”It’s a good start and he’s got a future in front of him. He’s a very nice and straightforward horse who looks like a chaser in the making. I think we’ll have a lot of fun with him.” Fire Warning was sourced by Yorton as a yearling before graduating from the 2023 Yorton Sale where he realised £28,000 to Antonin Pelsy & trainer Hugo Merienne. He may head to Cheltenham but connections seem to be favouring a look at Aintree in April as shorter term targets.

WINTER WHISKEY FOR WALTERS

Equally recognisable colours are those of proud Welshman, Dai Walters, who was also celebrating a nice winner last weekend with his in-house trainer, Sam Thomas. WHISKEY YANKEE (5yo G) took the last race at Ascot’s ‘Winter Millions’ fixture last Saturday on his hurdling & seasonal debut beating some very well touted rivals in the process. The Yorton homebred had finished second on his only other previous run in a Bumper at Ffos Las last spring & stepped up well under a patient ride to win nicely.

STALLION TOUR PROVES A HIT

On Saturday the 10 January, the farm opened its gates to the public for the inaugural TBA NH Stallion Open Weekend where existing & potential breeders were afforded the opportunity to see the roster of stallions as well as a selection of youngstock. Having worked tirelessly in the preceding days, the team did an excellent job of showcasing the farm with the stallions being shown every hour to an ever changing audience as they toured around the local area.

Naturally, there was a keen interest in new kid on the block, Cracksman who looks set to cover a nice book of mares in ‘26 however his fellow inmates of Postponed, Ito & Gentlewave all had their admirers in what is sure to be one of Yorton’s most exciting rosters to date.

We would like to thank the TBA for all their hard work in making the weekend happen & also to anyone who visited the farm. We hope you had a great time & enjoyed plenty of our hospitality in the Yorton bar!!!
