The UK & throughout Europe may be in the midst of one of the hottest summer’s on record but there is no let up to the workload at Yorton in advance of the annual sale of 2-y-o’s in September.
This year’s event will be the seventh renewal with circa 40 youngsters set to be offered with a mix of homebred & sourced stock within the catalogue. Working together with Goffs, the sale has already produced two Grade 1 winners alongside over 80 individual winners with many of the graduates still very much in their primitive years on the track. Winners in the UK, Ireland & across the channel in France have promoted the quality on offer each year encouraging a strong group of Owners, Trainers & Agents to attend whilst not forgetting the many successful pin-hooks achieved from those being re-sold as 3yo’s or as winning form horses.
Fire Warning was one such horse which was bought by Hugo Merienne at the 2023 edition for £28,000 before enhancing his credentials with winning & placed form in France. The son of The Grey Gatsby was subsequently sold for €340,000 prior to winning his debut UK start convincingly in the famed Ricci colours at Newbury under the tutelage of Nicky Henderson.
Each horse completes a 10 week programme with the sole emphasis on producing horses which are well educated & produced to maximise their own potential. Hand walking, lunging, pole work & loose schooling are key aspects used to enhance balance, co-ordination & prepare the horses for their careers on the racecourse.
The 2026 catalogue will be ‘Live’ on Wednesday 5 August & will feature progeny of various sires including Bathyrhon, Choeur Du Nord, Cracksman, Nirvana Du Berlais, Masked Marvel, Golden Horn, Nathaniel, Na Has alongside Yorton based sires Arrigo, Cracksman, Ito & Gentlewave.
