Amiloc gives Postponed Royal Success at Ascot

As the curtain comes down on the 2025 breeding season for the Yorton team, AMILOC proved to be one of the stars on show as he secured his sire Postponed’s debut Royal Ascot success winning the Gr. 2 King Edward VII Stakes on Friday afternoon (20th). (Pic above & below - Ed Whittaker)

Trained by Ralph Beckett, the 3yo retained his unblemished record to win his fifth consecutive race with the Royal showpiece being his first at pattern level as well as his first attempt at 1m4f. Racing well up with a searing pace, Rossa Ryan hit the front & put his stamina to the test which he answered with genuine determination on ground which connections believe was quicker than he would have liked. His Hampshire based trainer commented afterwards;

I think ground will dictate, I wouldn’t be afraid to take anybody on with him on slower ground so he is in everything. He’s going to take a bit of getting over today by the look of him; if it came up soft next month [for the Group 1 King George], or with a bit of juice, I’m sure we’d be here.

Postponed 3yo, AMILOC take in the Ascot atmosphere post race

Amiloc, owned & bred by the Aykroyd’s, was following up his runaway victory in Goodwood’s Listed Cocked Hat Stakes last month however, being a gelding, he was not eligible for the Epson Derby (oh what might have been!!) & so the ‘Ascot Derby’ was the obvious next step. In a race which has produced subsequent Group 1 winners King Of Steel, Continuous, Alenquer, Pyledriver alongside Japan, the bookmakers reacted by cutting him to 10-1 for the Group 1 King George back at Ascot next month where he will have to take on older horses for the first time. Given the regard in which he is held by connections, the son Postponed certainly looks to have more to give as the season rolls on. He has certainly earned the right to mix it at the very top table.

POSTPONED has just completed his second stud season at Yorton having stood under the Darley banner at Dalham Hall prior to his purchase. His eldest crop are only 6yo’s but he already boasts Group/Graded winners under both Flat/NH codes.
