- Superbly-bred son of Shirocco.
- Half-brother to top sire Adlerflug from the family of Urban Sea.
Arrigo, a beautifully-bred son of top sire Shirocco, has joined Yorton Farm Stud in time for the 2021 covering season. Bred in Germany, and a half-brother to that country’s leading stallion Adlerflug, Arrigo was a Gr.2 winner and Gr.1-placed on the Flat. He has the physique and breeding to emulate his sire and become a notable source of quality jumping stock.
Yorton Farm Stud’s David Futter said: “It has taken us two years to secure Arrigo, but thankfully we have him now. It is common for sons of successful Flat stallions to retire to stud, but it is difficult to acquire sons of quality jump sires.
“Stallions bred in Germany have always been very lucky for Yorton and our supporters, and this one comes from one of that country’s best female families. Standing 16.2hh, Arrigo is a wonderful-looking horse, he raced at the highest level and had the soundness and temperament to remain in training as a seven-year-old.
“He has been bought in partnership with the Potter family and will have the backing of our broodmare bands. Yorton’s policy is to support the stallions we stand, and it is our intention to buy his stock at the sales and also put them in to training.”
Bred by Gestut Schlenderhan out of the winning Last Tycoon mare Aiyana, 13-year-old Arrigo initially retired to Gestut Graditz before moving to central France and a place at Haras du Mazet. His oldest crop of foals have just turned four.
Futter concluded: “The presence of Covid means this is going to be another challenging breeding season for everyone, but the market for bloodstock remains healthy, and if we all remain focussed and stick together we will come out of this in a stronger position.”
Arrigo joins Gentlewave, Linda’s Lad, Masterstroke, Pether’s Moon and Scalo on the Yorton Farm Stud roster.
