“Something a bit special”, “Now that was impressive” were some of the comments after watching the 5yo son of Masterstroke, PIKAR, romp home on his debut run this season at Chepstow this afternoon (26/10/22)
Having been second behind the talented Knappers Hill this time last year, the Dan Skelton trained Pikar was an unlucky last fence faller in a Grade 2 Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham next time out prior to running very respectfully behind the mighty Jonbon in January. Returning to the Skelton yard in July (pictured) after a summer back at Yorton, the 5yo gelding faced a very competitive field & held up in the early stages, he was beautifully produced by Harry Skelton to defeat his rivals comfortably by 5Ls with Grade 2 Aintree Bumper second Hullnback, Cheltenham Listed Bumper second Timeforatune filling the minor places in behind.
A graduate of the unique Yorton Sale academy, Pikar races in the Yorton Racing silks for a group of Owners & this good moving, scopey individual looks an exciting horse to follow.
Masterstroke was popular with breeders during the 2022 season & looks set for his biggest & best crops to run from this season onwards. Arguably the best bred NH stallion standing in the UK, the son of Monsun is a sire the Yorton team are delighted to be standing.
