With the NH season in full flow, Yorton graduates enjoyed a successful weekend with a number of impressive performances headlined by Master Nonantais (pictured) landing the Listed Prix Dominique Sartini at Compiegne on Saturday (29/10/22)
Trained by Hugo Merienne on behalf of Sue Bramall, Master Nonantais (4yo G by Masterstroke) faced a very competitive field at one of France’ headline racecourses with three previous black type performers lining up including a Grade 1 winner. Always travelling well under James Reveley, the now three time winner cruised to the lead & despite a couple errors over the final two flights, was always in command & now looks set to contest the Grade 1 Prix Renaud Du Vivier at Auteuil at the end of the month.
Master Nonantais was bought by his Owner at the 2020 Goffs UK Yorton Sale as a 2yo.
Siblings look to have bright futures
The success moved from France to Ireland as two Yorton bred siblings caught the eyes in the emerald isle. On Sunday (30/10/22), INTHEPOCKET (5yo G by Blue Bresil) enhanced his reputation by winning the Racing Again Tomorrow Maiden Hurdle at Wexford by an eased down six lengths for Henry de Bromhead & leading NH Owner Mr J. P. McManus. Out of the Heron Island mare Egretta Island, the son of former Yorton resident Blue Bresil was making his first appearance in the green & gold silks having been sold for £290,000 having landed a 4yo Maiden Point-to-Point in November ‘21 for Paul Cashman. Inthepocket was sourced by Cashman as a 2yo at the 2019 Goffs UK Yorton Sale for £25,000 when knocked down to Hamish Macaulay having completed the ‘Yorton education’ throughout that year.
Clovis Island is another Yorton graduate to mark down in the notebook as the year younger brother to Inthepocket, finished second, beaten a head, on his debut run in the 4yo Maiden Point-to-Point at Loughbrickland on Saturday (29/10/22) with a further 5 lengths back to the third. A son of another former resident, Clovis du Berlais, Clovis Island is trained by Sean Doyle in Wexford & now looks destined for one of the upcoming sales where he is sure to be popular. The 4yo was sold as a yearling by Yorton & was picked up by current connections for a now cheap looking €20,000 as a store!!
Connell’s Patience Looks To Be Rewarded.
Leading NH Owner/Trainer Barry Connell looks to have a smart prospect on his hands with another Yorton graduate, GOOD LAND (6yo G by Blue Bresil) after he won somewhat cosily in the Bumper at Wexford yesterday (31/10/22). Connell bought the son of Blue Bresil privately from Cormac Doyle unraced as a 4yo & finished second to subsequent Grade 3 winner Grand Paradis in a Fairyhouse Bumper back in November 2020. Reported as injuring his sesamoid during that run, connections have had to be patient & given the nature of this performance, may well be highly rewarded.
The Racing Post reported afterwards he looks the type to make up for lost time and continued his stable’s sensational run. He won this despite apparently not being in love with the ground. He is likely to go to Leopardstown at Christmas and has a touch of class, though one imagines he will go hurdling soon.
Good Land was sourced privately in France by Yorton as a foal.
