Yorton bred, Yorton prepped….and sold at the Yorton Sale!!
INTHEPOCKET (5yo Gelding) produced a nice performance at Naas this afternoon (20/12/22) by taking the Grade 2 Tote Navan Novice Hurdle for Henry de Bromhead in the hands of superstar pilot Rachael Blackmore. This was only his third career start & despite undoubtedly being hindered by the removal of the final two flights due to low sun, the son of Blue Bresil was always doing enough to beat the Gordon Elliot pair of Three Card Brag & Absolute Notions.
Out of the winning Heron Island mare Egretta Island, he was jointly bred by Yorton & Tessa Greatrex & was sold at the inaugural Goffs UK Yorton Sale as a 2yo where he realised £25,000 to Hamish Macauley on behalf of Paul Cashman. Having skipped the Store Sales due to Covid-19, he was sent between the flags in an Irish Point-to-Point where he won nicely at the first time of asking in Limerick at Moig South. Sent to the Cheltenham Sales shortly after, he was picked out by leading owner J. P. McManus’ chief pointing scout Michael Hyde who signed the docket at £290,000. Money which looks well spent at this stage!
The Racing Post reported afterwards Inthepocket followed up on his maiden hurdle success and he looks a very nice horse. He jumps well and connections certainly felt that he was not suited by the two hurdles in the straight being omitted. He travelled really well and it was not hard to see why Rachael Blackmore locked him away behind horses for as long as she did. When he got there he quickened up nicely but he was definitely getting lonely in front. He can improve again and the 2m4f Grade 1 here in January looks a natural target, and it would not be a surprise to see him drop back in trip. He would appear to have the gears.
Frank Berry, Racing Manager further commented he put up a nice performance. He jumps well and the omitted hurdles was not a help to him. He doesn’t do a lot in front but it was a step up from his maiden and he has a bit of class. He’ll learn from that
Egretta Island has a gorgeous colt foal by Arrigo who will be offered at the Goffs UK January Sale on Tuesday 24th.
