Yorton homebred CLOVIS ISLAND was the latest farm graduate to enter the winners enclosure today (28/3/23) when taking the concluding Bumper at Hexham in good style on his first start under rules.

Bred in partnership with Tessa Greatrex, the son of Clovis Du Berlais had been bought privately by multiple Grade 1 winning trainer Nicky Richards having finished second in a Loughbrickland 4yo Maiden Point-to-Point for the Wexford based Sean ‘Farmer’ Doyle. Sent off a short priced favourite, the 5yo gelding made all & responded well to beat the Lucinda Russell trained Fox’s Fancy who is a brother to National winner One For Arthur.

Clovis Island himself is able to boast about a high class elder sibling as his half brother, is the very smart INTHEPOCKET (Blue Bresil) who having won a Grade 2 Hurdle & finished second in a Grade 1, ran well to finish a six lengths fourth behind Marine Nationale in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. A family steeped in stamina, both horses look set for exciting futures going forward once stepped up in trip.
