The Yorton team were lucky enough to be at Aintree yesterday (14/4/23) to roar home INTHEPOCKET as he claimed Grade 1 glory Top Novices’ Hurdle in the iconic green & gold silks of Mr JP McManus.
The son of Blue Bresil was bred at Yorton in partnership with Tessa Greatrex & will forever hold the mantle of the first Grade 1 winner bred by the stud. Inthepocket was sold at the inaugural Yorton Sale as a 2yo to Hamish Macaulay on behalf of Paul Cashman for £25,000. Now trained by Henry de Bromhead in Ireland, he was placed fourth behind Marine Nationale in the Supreme at Cheltenham last month but stepped forward yesterday kicking clear before the last hurdle to win comfortably. De Bromhead commented afterwards ‘he’s got pace, he stays, he’s a really exciting horse & we will aim to go chasing’

Later in the afternoon, Yorton nearly brought up a Grade 1 double with graduate MAXIMILIAN finish second by just over a length in the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle run over 3 miles. Trained by Cheshire based Donald McCain, the son of Adlerflug (sire of Ito & brother to Arrigo) is another exciting horse to look forward next season. Maximilian was bought as a yearling in Germany by Yorton.
