Any successful business is generally judged on success in their chosen sphere, whatever that me be. Correct? In the world of horse racing, ‘winners’ are the barometer by which they will be measured & Yorton graduates have well & truly stepped up to the mark as the NH season skips into full throttle.
Stock offered at the stud’s ‘YORTON SALE’ headline the recent flurry of winners & none more so than INTHEPOCKET (pictured above - Irishracing.com), who returned to action over fences at Wexford for trainer Henry De Bromhead. With a Grade 1 victory to his name already, the JP McManus owned 7yo could not have been more impressive on his reappearance in a 13 runner Beginners Chase (28 October) having missed the spring campaign last season. Undoubtably the Gr.1 Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival will be his long range target but connections will now look for a a pre-Christmas chase as homebred looks to make up for lost time. Moreover, the form has already been franked as Farren Glory, who trailed in a full 15Ls behind, reappeared at Naas on the 10 November, winning by a going away 7Ls. That result will only add more fuel to the fire of Inthepocket’s reputation.

Many of the horses sold at the sale are homebred off the farm & two siblings won equally impressively in recent weeks. MYTHICAL MOON (Pether’s Moon) was bought by trainer Alan King as a yearling at the 2021 renewal for £42,000 & reappeared after his summer break by winning a N.H. Novices Hurdle at Stratford on 31 October. It was a determined performance with the 4yo short of room travelling down to the last flight but he burrowed through showing a wonderful attitude to win nicely. Mythical Moon is out of the Presenting mare Fabrika & her 3yo daughter LADY TADITA (Masterstroke) (pictured below) ran out an easy winner on her debut for Jamie Snowden in a N.H. Junior Flat Race at Huntington by 8Ls on 12 November. Bought by her connections for £30,000 as a 2yo at the 2023 sale, the Racing Post reported “Lady Tadita really found top stride from the two-furlong pole to score in a striking manner. Her trainer nominated her as a possible for Cheltenham on New Years Day.”

Another homebred who produced a winning debut performance in recent weeks was the Dan Skelton trained BLUE CARPET (Blue Bresil). A 4yo out of the juvenile Auteuil winning mare Yolaine, Blue Carpet, who was sold as a 3yo the trainers close ally in Ryan Mahon, travelled strongly throughout to win going away in a N. H. Flat race at Carlisle on 17 October under former Champion jockey, Harry Skelton.

NO DELAY IN POSTPOSED HITTING THE TARGET
Fresh to the Yorton stallion barn last year was the multiple Gr.1 winner & Champion, POSTPONED, who proved to be extremely popular in his first season in mid-Wales. His reputation has undoubtably soared in recent weeks after producing a number of winners.
Two 3yo’s who made winning debuts over jumps having switched codes from the flat were CONTINUANCE & SEE THE GREEN. Trained by Cheltenham Festival winning maestro, Martin Keighley, Continuance scored by an impressive & unchallenged 19Ls at Sedgefield on 20 October under the guidance of champion jockey elect, Sean Bowen. Picked up at the HIT Sales for 21,000gns last year, he will now head to the Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle trial at Cheltenham this coming weekend.

SEE THE GREEN was also picked up by new connections at the sales & he looks to be very well bought after winning in gutsy fashion at Ludlow on 7 November for Anthony Charlton having earned a transfer from the Owen Burrow yard. Travelling well throughout, he had to dig deep when challenged close home but produced a lovely jump at the last to win readily & is another to be on the look out for as he steps up in grade throughout the winter.
